Devoted and Disgruntled with Improbable
A fabulous day spent with Phelim McDermott, the artistic director of Improbable and other theatre makers in an 'Open Space' event that discussed the concept of a European Union of Artists in the aftermath of BREXIT. One thing we know is, that the future is uncertain and that the leave Europe vote will have a profound affect on British theatre. What that will look like, nobody quite knows. However, what was discussed was, that if change is inevitable, then it is now that the creatives, performers and artists should be lobbying to make the changes work for the future of British arts. This means that we have all got to participate by writing to MPs and joining unions and/or other organisations that may affect change. This was an day of sharing and ultimate optimism. It was also great to experience Open Space Technology as a way of allowing the conversation to begin. Something will happen, 'expect to be surprised!'
