A Midsummer Night's Dream

I was delighted to be invited to direct Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for the CornerHOUSE. Working with CornerHOUSE encapsulated the ethos of community collaboration. It has been a wonderful journey from page to stage. From the very beginning it was important for the storytelling to be at the centre of the production. Engaging with the current debate around Shakespeare, I have tried to make the play accessible, relevant and contemporary whilst maintaining respect for the truth and comedy in the writing. Love, friendship and acceptance is the focus for this experience and Shakespeare’s observations are as sharp today as they were four hundred years ago.
